13th - 15th September 2011, Kouvola, Finland
Commissioned by the European Business Innovation Center Kymi
Google's establishment of a major eco friendly data centre at the former paper mill site in Hamina, Finland has sparked interest for the usage of other abandoned mill sites across the rest of Finland.
The Voikkaa paper mill site in Kouvola, Finland, is the host location of our Data Centre Locations Forum. The mill is currently being redeveloped into a state of the art data centre and there is the opportunity to take a look around it as part of this event. An evening reception will be held at the charming Voikkaa Clubhouse.
The Forum welcomes and entertains all those involved in the world of Data Centres and expanding to new sites, looking at scalability, cost management, reliability and flexibility. It is an excellent opportunity for networking and a chance to form partnerships for future data centre growth, as also included in the programme is an optional round of golf!
Creating a data centre that is eco-friendly yet also cost efficient is a key issue in their establishment. The two day programme discusses environmental leadership, green IT initiatives and methods for reducing the impact of wasted energy. Location issues relating to sustainability will be raised - What is it that makes a particular region so sustainable?
People, talent, design and technology are also key themes at the Data Centre Locations Forum. What are the skill sets needed to make data centres operate successfully? We explore the buzzword "cloud" for outsourcing digital files and how this initiative is enhancing operating systems and energy efficiency. As Laura Ipsen from Cisco says, "The only way we can make smart changes to our planet is by using technology".
